Important point is the beautiful Basilica of San Francesco with the frescoes by Giotto; the most important artists of the time worked on the upper and lower churches, such as Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti and Simone Martini.

Also worth seeing are the birthplace of Francesco and the most hidden corners of the medieval city. The heart of the city is Piazza del Comune with its Roman Temple of Minerva, later converted into the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva. Even today it is the best preserved Roman monument in Umbria.
