Originally from Germany, I have been living in Finland since 2003. I am looking forward to showing you my favorite sights and corners of Helsinki. The Finnish capital is a beautiful city, showcasing fascinating architecture, beautiful coast line, cozy park areas and many nice restaurants. In my opinion, the best way to get to know Helsinki is either by walking or by bicycle. Tervetuloa!

Helsinki has a distinct character in every season. In summer, from mid-May to September, the Finnish capital exudes an almost Mediterranean atmosphere: the beautiful Baltic coast with its beaches and cycle paths stretches in all directions, there are green parks, sidewalk cafes, numerous events, open-air music, and regular ferries for exploring the islands off the coast. Those seeking a Christmas atmosphere, glögi (mulled wine), and truly unique (design) gifts should visit in December. In January and February, you can stroll on the frozen Baltic Sea under a bright blue sky and crisp, cold air, or take a dip in an ice hole after a sauna. Darkness reigns in November, and in March and April, you wonder when spring will finally arrive. Bad weather? Coffee and a cinnamon bun always help.
Besides Senate Square with its imposing white cathedral, the most famous sights include the Rock Church, the Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, the Oodi Central Library, the renowned Central Railway Station, and Alvar Aalto's Finlandia Hall. In addition, there are more than 600 large, exceptional Art Nouveau buildings. Seeing them and understanding their significance for the city and as witnesses to Finnish history is an integral part of all city tours. Depending on individual preferences and the tour's duration, other significant sites are also of interest, such as the Sibelius Monument, the Olympic Stadium, the Seurasaari Open Air Museum, or the Design District. The Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, situated on five islands off the coast, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's worth allocating extra time here and booking a separate tour.
The city center is easily explored on foot. On our guided tours, we prefer a combination of walking and tram travel. This provides a good overview and allows you to discover even the more remote sights without getting tired feet. In summer, cycling is an ideal way to explore the city, as Helsinki has a very well-developed network of cycle paths, allowing you to easily include the beautiful coastline and Art Nouveau districts. Helsinki's public transport system is exceptionally efficient, and it's worth buying a day pass. This pass is also valid for many of the ferries to the islands, such as the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, as well as for all buses and the metro.
