Charming Volterra

Volterra is a medieval hilltop town surrounded by walls and enjoys a breathtaking view. In this strategic place developed an important Etruscan town that later became roman, then episcopal seat, then indipendent commune and so on. Together we will see the traces of this long history in thelively centre of the town like the Etruscan Gate, the Roman Theater, the Cathedral and the old Townhall. There are also interesting museums that we could visit, particularly the Etruscan one, and even a workshop of alabaster, a tipical stone of the area. We could also walk a bit further up to the top of the hill to see the Medici Fortress and the archeological site, or downhill to the source of San Felice, the church of San Francesco and even outside the medieval walls to reach the Roman Anphitheatre that has been recently discovered in the countryside.
