Piran City Tour - A Town Grown On Salt

This medieval town, whose architecture was influenced by its proximity to Venice, is without a doubt one of the most romantic, most preserved and most authentic Mediterranean towns. The strong historical influence is complemented by the Mediterranean ambience and various cultural attractions that are mostly linked to the tradition of salt making.

Salt makers produce salt following a 700-year old procedure and still harvest it manually with traditional tools. The high value of the famed salt enabled the rise of picturesque Piran in medieval times.

In today’s cosmopolitan Portorož salt makes up a big part of the range of wellness services offered, which is regarded as one of the most comprehensive in Europe. Beside salt-making tradition Piran is also known for many other sights, such as medieval town wall, Giuseppe Tartini and many more.
