2-Hour Copenhagen Tour in English
Start: Copenhagen Central Station (Metro, suburban & long distance trains). This national-romantic edifice has ever since 1911 saluted arriving visitors. After a stop at the graceful entrance to the old amusement park, Tivoli Gardens, we enter The Town Hall Square. The Town Hall itself (1905) in the style of historicism is one of the landmarks of the city.
We escape the hectic atmosphere by one the of the small, winding streets with cafes and sprawling shops leading into the Latin Quarter. Passing by the German church Sant Petrus we arrive at Our Lady´s Square. Here classicism rules: The Cathredral, the Main Building of the University and the old Metropolitan School. Proceding through this learned neigborhood we pass by old dignified university dormatories and the Jewish Synagogue ending up in front of the spectacular Round Tower with its interior spiral staircase and the picture puzzle on the facade.
Købmagergade (Butcher Street) is the name of an elegant shopping mile taking us to the rather massive Christiansborg Palace, the center of power in Denmark. Next stop is King´s New Square with its magnificent building including The Royal Theatre and Charlottenborg Palace. Adjacent the picturesque New Harbour.
Here the Frederic´s Quarter begins, an archtectural project from 1750 praising the absolute monarchy. The heart of this quarter is Amalienborg Palace, now the royal residence. Next to the Palace The Marble Church with its copper dome. End: Marmorkirken Metro Station.
