The Milan Cathedral dedicated to the Nativity of St Mary (Santa Maria Nascente) has a long building history of nearly six centuries: construction began in 1386, and the final details were completed in 1965. It is the third largest church after St. Peter's Basilica is in the State of Vatican City and the cathedral in Siviglia, Spain. The roof is open to tourists, which allows a close-up view of some spectacular sculpture that would otherwise be unappreciated. The roof of the cathedral is renowned for the forest of openwork pinnacles and spires, set upon delicate flying buttresses and a breathtaking panorama view on the city and in clear-sky-days even the Alps are visible!
